Monk impressed by Swansea start

Swansea City manager Garry Monk hailed his side’s start to the season after they defeated West Bromwich Albion 3-0 to go into the first international break having won all three of their Premier League matches, reports the club’s official website.

After victories against Manchester United and Burnley, the Welsh club were quick out of the blocks on Saturday and took the lead in only the second minute when Nathan Dyer capitalised on a slip by Jonas Olsson to round goalkeeper Ben Foster and fire home.

Wayne Routledge made it two with a wonderful volley on 24 minutes after a poor defensive header from Craig Dawson, before Dyer sealed the three points in the second half with his third goal in two games, latching on to Gylfi Sigurdsson’s pass.

The win leaves them level with Chelsea - who they play next - on nine points from a possible nine, and Monk praised the way his team have began the campaign. He said: “We were very good in many aspects today. It’s a good start, but that’s all it is.

“There is a long way to go and a lot more work to do. But, in terms of the start we’ve had, we’re pretty much where we should be. It’s good to have that winning habit, which is always nice to have within your squad, but when you’re trying to be a perfectionist you see more things they do wrong than right. But today it was important to start the game well and, ultimately, we got the win.”
