Southampton boss Koeman praises Schneiderlin

Southampton manager Ronald Koeman has hailed the performance of Morgan Schneiderlin after the Frenchman scored twice in their 3-1 win over West Ham United, Sky Sports has reported.

Heavily linked with a move to Tottenham throughout the summer, Schneiderlin levelled the game for the Saints with a curling shot at the second attempt after being left unmarked at a free-kick. The hosts had earlier taken the lead through Mark Noble’s deflected effort.

Schneiderlin then put his side 2-1 in front from another set-piece, turning the ball home at the near post after a quickly taken corner. The win was then confirmed for the visitors in an impressive performance when Graziano Pelle found the roof of the net for his first Premier League goal.

After the game, Koeman insisted that Schneiderlin will not be sold before the transfer deadline, and praised his performance. He said: “Schneiderlin was very good today. He can play in a controlled position in midfield and can also push further forward but he has a great view of the pitch and he is very important to us. We have been adamant he is not for sale and we keep that until the end (of the transfer window)”.

“We were a little bit lucky to get to 1-1 at half-time but that goal gave us the belief and the spirit to try and win the game and that was the difference – we played to win and not to lose and the quality that we have in our squad made the difference.”
