Villa make Canales approach
Aston Villa have made a late attempt to sign Real Sociedad midfielder Sergio Canales, Sky Sports has reported.
Canales, formerly of Real Madrid and Valencia, was involved as a second-half substitute in La Real’s Sunday win over Madrid when the Basques came from two goals down to beat Los Blancos 4-2.
It’s believed that Canales is the latest midfielder on the agenda of Villa manager Paul Lambert, who has previously been linked with an approach for Manchester United’s Tom Cleverley, who isn’t thought to have a future at Old Trafford under Louis van Gaal.
Canales, 23, moved to Real Sociedad in January after two years with Valencia. He has played fewer than 20 games for Jagoba Arrasate’s side and made 57 appearances for Valencia before heading to Anoeta.
The Spain youth international started his career at Racing Santander, playing 39 times before switching to Madrid. At the Santiago Bernabeu he featured 15 times and was part of the squad that claimed the 2011 Copa del Rey, moving to Valencia at the end of that same season.
