Hull City have confirmed the club record capture of Palermo striker Abel Hernandez, according to the club’s official website.

The Tigers don’t reveal the transfer fee but do confirm the Uruguay international has signed on a three-year contract with the option for a fourth. Hernandez spent five years at Palermo, last season helping the club to promotion from Serie B to Serie A, scoring 14 goals. It total, Hernandez netted 36 goals in 122 games for the club.

Hernandez began his career at Central Espanol in his native Uruguay and later moved to Penarol, scoring 12 goals in 35 games while playing in South America. He was part of the Uruguay squad at the World Cup, making his international bow in 2010, and has seven goals in 14 games.

Hull have this summer signed Tottenham Hotspur’s Michael Dawson and made the loan move of Jake Livermore permanent, while on transfer deadline day they also parted with George Boyd, who joined newly-promoted Burnley.

Steve Bruce said of the signing of Hernandez that it was a sign of the progression of the club. “Abel is a fantastic signing and highlights just how far the club has come in such a short space of time,” the manager continued. “He is an exciting talent and like myself, I’m sure the supporters can’t wait to see him in action.”
