Manchester United midfielder Tom Cleverley’s proposed loan move to Aston Villa could still go ahead despite the transfer window having already closed, according to Sky Sports.

Cleverley has also been recently linked with moves to Hull City and Everton, with La Liga outfit Valencia also emerging as a surprise candidate for his signature.

While Villa had agreed a fee with United, reports suggested that Cleverley’s wage demands had scuppered the transfer. The possibility of him moving to Villa Park suffered a further blow when the interest from Everton emerged, as it was thought he preferred the idea of linking up with Roberto Martinez who he had previously played for while on loan at Wigan Athletic in the 2010/11 season.

However, reports now indicate that Villa are seeking confirmation from the Premier League that they can proceed with the loan transfer, having submitted an application shortly before the transfer deadline yesterday, but not receiving confirmation.

Cleverley has made 79 appearances in all competitions for United, scoring 5 goals, and has so far won 13 senior England caps. However, with a wealth of midfield and attacking talent arriving at Old Trafford this summer, he is likely to find his first team chances limited should he stay.
