Burnley deadline day signing George Boyd believes he and his new team mates have what it takes to secure Premier League survival this season, reports the Lancashire Telegraph.

Boyd made the move to Turf Moor from Hull City on transfer deadline day for a fee believed to be around £3 million and immediately stated his desire to remain in the Premier League, having achieved an unlikely survival with Hull last season.

“It’s a big challenge, like it was last year with Hull – no-one gave us a chance to stay up. It’s the same sort of thing with Burnley this season,” said Boyd.

Boyd initially came to national attention during a six-year spell at Peterborough United where he made almost 300 appearances and scored 75 goals, before joining Hull in 2013.

The 28-year-old bagged 6 goals in 54 appearances in his time with the Tigers. He also has two senior caps for Scotland.

Boyd can play in a variety of attacking positions, and enjoys creating opportunities as well as taking them. “Goals and assists – I think that’s my game. I try to be quite a creative player,” he said.

Clarets boss Sean Dyche also expressed his delight at having landed such a versatile player, saying: “You’ll have seen him left, right, the number 10 playing out of a three in midfield. We want that flexibility and we need it to some degree because of the squad size and the squad numbers.”

Dyche also confirmed that the last-minute nature of the signing was simply due to not being aware that Boyd was on the market. “His availability was only in a matter of days really, (Hull City manager) Steve Bruce is a big fan of his but just felt that he didn't want to hold him back more than anything,” said Dyche.

Boyd was one of three arrivals at Turf Moor on transfer deadline day alongside the loan captures of Nathaniel Chalobah from Chelsea and Manchester United’s Michael Keane.
