Man Utd's Di Maria ‘wanted PSG move’
Wednesday 03 September 2014
The president of Paris Saint-Germain has claimed Angel Di Maria wanted to move to his club, not Manchester United, upon leaving Real Madrid, the Daily Telegraph has reported.
Nasser Al-Khelaifi added that PSG did speak with Madrid over the signing of the Argentina international but backed away for financial reasons, although not ones related to UEFA’s Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations.
“For two or three weeks I discussed this issue with my friend Florentino Perez, the president of Real Madrid,” Al-Khelaifi said. “We met twice, we made an offer, but we did not agree on the price. For me it was too expensive. It has nothing to do with Financial Fair Play. The player wanted to come to Paris, but this was not possible.”
Di Maria eventually signed in at Old Trafford for a British record fee of £59.7m. He made his United debut on Saturday as Louis van Gaal’s side travelled to Burnley looking for their first win of the season, the match ending in a goalless draw with Di Maria substituted in the second half.
