The agent of Arsenal forward Joel Campbell has criticised manager Arsene Wenger for not letting the Costa Rica international leave the club before the transfer window closed, the Daily Mail has reported.

Joel Campbell

Joaquim Batica claims Benfica were keen to sign his client but Wenger wouldn’t sanction the deal and is said to want to keep Campbell at the club after he caught the eye playing in the Champions League last season for Olympiakos.

Campbell has featured only sporadically so far for the Gunners, however, and Batica revealed Campbell was offered the chance to move to Portugal. “Benfica fought until the last minute to sign Campbell but the move didn’t happen because, in the last hour, Arsenal decided to keep him,” he said. “Wenger says he did not want to sell him. But if he is not in his plans, then why not allow him to leave?”

Rather than let Campbell leave, Wenger added a striker to his ranks on deadline day, bringing in Danny Welbeck from Manchester United.

Campbell meanwhile has spent time on loan at Lorient and Real Betis, as well as in Greece, and featured for his country at the World Cup. He netted against Uruguay as Los Ticos reached the tournament’s quarter-finals, eventually being knocked out by the Netherlands after a penalty shootout.

What he really means Arsenal stopped him earning a huge bonus. These agents really are lowlife scum; costing fans loads of money in increased gate prices because they get so much money for doing FA. About time they were banned; after all why can't a grown man negotiate his own contract or does the ability to play football damage your brain.
