Tottenham news - Spurs sign Khumalo, Move for Lukaku, Hutton thankful for week off

By John Baines

Tuesday 26 October 2010

Spurs sign Khumalo.

Harry Redknapp has moved to bolster Tottenham’s injury stricken backline by signing South African international defender Bongani Khumalo.

The 23-year-old will move to Spurs in January after agreeing a pre-contract agreement to join from South African ABSA Premiership side Supersport United.

Khumalo has been capped 19 times by the Bafana Bafana and scored his first International goal during this summer’s World Cup as the hosts humbled France 2-1.

Move for Lukaku.

Spurs are the latest club to be linked with a big money move for Anderlecht hot-shot Romelu Lukaku.

The 17-year-old Belgian star has attracted the interest of a host of top European clubs since bursting into the Anderlecht team aged just 15.

The £20m rated striker has been likened to Didier Drogba given their similarities in size and style of play. Lukaku was the top scorer in the Belgian Pro League last season, tucking away 15 goals in 25 games – form which alerted the likes of Real Madrid, Internazionale, Arsenal, Chelsea, and now seemingly Tottenham to his abilities.

Hutton thankful for week off.

Full-back Alan Hutton has welcomed a rare free midweek ahead of Saturday’s trip to Manchester United.

Spurs appeared leggy and lethargic during last weekend’s 1-1 draw against Everton – a fixture which game less than 72 hours after the energy sapping defeat to Inter.

The clash at Old Trafford sparks a hectic next month in which the Lilywhites will play seven games, which includes crucial games in the Champions League.

The Scotland International said, “It's brilliant to have a clear week now so that we can take it easy and make sure we get the rest in before another tough week ahead. There are a lot of big games in there. We want to do well in the Champions League but we have to make sure we come home do well in the league.”
