Man Utd midfielder Scholes could make England Euro 2012 return

Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes could return to the England set-up for Euro 2012 eight years after he stepped down from the national team after growing tired of playing out of position and being away from his family, the Guardian has reported.

Scholes is said to be open to speaking with Roy Hodgson, the new England manager, ahead of the announcement of the England squad for this summer’s championships on Wednesday. Scholes previously turned down an offer to return to international football from former England manager Fabio Capello, who tried to tempt Scholes out of exile for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

The Guardian adds that Scholes was interested in returning to the England reckoning two years ago but declined because he felt Capello did not offer a convincing enough argument, as well as being disappointed Capello designated the approach to one of his assistants rather than make the call himself.

Scholes retired from all football last summer but returned to Manchester United in January and may play on at club level for at least another year.

Scholes would be an excellent addition to the England squad for the summer, but I can't see it happening for two reasons. Firstly since going into retirement he became very vocal and openly criticised the England squad for having too many big egos and such the like..... how has that changed? And secondly as he comes to the end of his career for a second time it's likely ferguson will 'want' his only creative midfielder to get plenty of rest if he is indeed to play on next season like suggested in the media. Having said all of the above I would like to see it happen.
