Alex Ferguson set to quit Man Utd, Mourinho lined-up as replacement

By Guest

Sunday 18 April 2010

According to the Daily Star, Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson will resign at the end of the season, after 23 years in charge. It is also suggested that unsettled Inter Coach Jose Mourinho has already been lined-up as his replacement.

Ferguson had planned to retire in 2005, however he renaged on his decision, and has not spoken of a future retirement since. However, in recent weeks his side have been knocked out of the Champions League, are second in the Premier League, and the Scottish manager is thought to have decided that now is the time to retire. This would also appear to be backed-up by comments made by Alex's son, Darren Ferguson, in March 2009 when he said: "I can see him doing this year and next - and then that might be it for him."

Jose Mourinho recently spoke out publicly attacking Italian football, saying "I don't like Italian football, and Italian football doesn't like me". He is also known to want the Manchester United job, and favours a move back to England ahead of Spain.

Chris Markham, perhaps you should read the fourth and fifth words of the article to find who read it. The Daily Star should give you your answer.

@markham - bbc says 2005 - http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/teams/m/man_utd/7283212.stm Think he did it in 2001/02 as well though

Whoever wrote needs to go back to school. At what point has Sir Alex said that he will retire? and also, he decided to retire in 2001 not 2005 before changing his mind.
