Armstrong interested in Northern Ireland job

By Tim Doel

Tuesday 11 October 2011

Sky Sports' Spanish football pundit Gerry Armstrong has admitted he does find the possibility of managing his native Northern Ireland very interesting, although only in a part-time role.

The former striker scored 12 goals in 63 caps for the national team, and has been assistant manager on two separate occasions, under Bryan Hamilton in 1994, and in 2004 under Lawrie Sanchez, another name mentioned to replace the departing Nigel Worthington.

Talking to Sky Sports, Armstrong revealed: "I have got the capabilities to do the job but I don't know if I want to do it on a full-time basis. I think it's a part-time job, the manager will probably be in place 45 to 50 days a year, and if they wanted a full-time manager I probably wouldn't be interested in it. If it was a part-time job then I probably would be interested."
