Levante rocked by Asier del Horno injury blow
Levante have been rocked by the news that Asier del Horno has been ruled out for between six and eight weeks with a calf injury.
The 30-year-old underwent tests on Monday to reveal the extent of the damage and a statement on the club’s official website read: “The Levante medical team have confirmed the worst predictions and Asier del Horno will be out of action for between six and eight weeks with a micro tear in the soleus of his left leg.”
The former Athletic Bilbao, Chelsea and Valencia defender was injured in the second half of the 5-0 defeat by Barcelona at the weekend and left the pitch after 75 minutes in obvious pain. Del Horno has already missed three weeks of the season with a similar injury and only returned to Juan Ignacio Martínez’s starting line-up in the game against Sporting Gijón last week.
In addition, he was operated on in May for an Achilles tendon injury which delayed his start to the season until the Real Betis game in early October, limiting his appearances to just five this term. However, when he has been available he has been one of the first names on Martínez’s team sheet and his loss comes at a time when Los Granotes are struggling to maintain their fine start to the season.
