Collison enjoying his role back in the West Ham side

By Derek Baker

Tuesday 06 December 2011

Jack Collison is delighted to be part of a successful West Ham United team once again.

The 23 year old had a slow start to the season, but has found himself back in the team in recent games alongside captain Kevin Nolan and talisman Mark Noble.

Last Saturday saw him reach the milestone of 50 league starts for the club, making his 14th appearance of the season in the Hammers 2-1 defeat to Burnley.

His appearances last season though were cut short after a long period on the treatment table, with the Welsh international sustaining a knee injury that meant he could do nothing but watch the team sink from English football’s top tier.

However the characteristics of the midfielder are all still evident as he tries to rebuild the reputation he once had at Upton Park before his setback.

His box-to-box runs, and the drive and energy he has brought to the Hammers so far this year has shown his recovery is almost complete, and but for a little better fortune, he may have seen his goal tally increase instead of the two he has so far this term.

Collison told the club's official website: “My form is getting better. After the long lay-off that I had, it was going to be a bit of a task to get back but I am feeling fitter with each game. I feel I am slowly getting there.

"It is up to me to keep producing the goods, hopefully chip in with some goals and help the team win games."

United’s next game is at Reading, and he, like the rest of the squad, will be hoping the side can bounce back from their first defeat in eight. The wish to achieve another impressive unbeaten streak is evident around East London, and hopefully catch leaders Southampton who are just two points ahead of Big Sam’s promotion chasers.
