Houllier identifies some unknown dangers for England at Euro 2012

By Bryan Waters

Monday 19 December 2011

Former French national team manager Gerard Houllier has revealed some of the lesser-known players that England fans should be aware of when the two sides meet in Ukraine.

France and England have been drawn in the same group as each other for the upcoming European Championships in Poland and Ukraine. France beat England 2-1 at Euro 2004, when they were in the same group. Houllier, who managed Les Bleus for one year, failed to get them to the 1994 World Cup, but established a successful career in club management subsequently.

Houllier believes that current France manager Laurent Blanc has inherited a difficult team following the scandal at the 2010 World Cup, but believes there are young players coming through with talent. The Frenchman also thinks that the first game between France and England will be a draw.

‘The young French players that they (England fans) may not know, but should be looking out for, include Loic Remy, who plays for Marseille. He is quick and can be a handful. Probably Kevin Gameiro, who plays for Paris (Saint Germain). He is a goalscorer and quick as well. In midfield, Moussa Sissoko from Toulouse’, Houllier said.
