Sevilla President Del Nido sentenced to seven and a half years in prison
Sevilla President, José María del Nido, has been sentenced to seven and a half years in prison for his involvement in the so-called ‘Caso Minutas’ (Minutas Case), which concerned the embezzlement of public funds in the town of Marbella on the Costa del Sol. Del Nido will also have to pay Marbella town hall €2.7m for his role in the corruption ring while former mayor, Julian Muñoz, received the same sentence as Del Nido and Juan Antonio Roca, a former urban planning advisor, was sentenced to four years in jail.
The offences took place between 1999 and 2003 when Del Nido was working as a lawyer for the municipality and the public prosecutor demanded 30 years in prison for the Sevilla chief, who sat alongside another 15 people in the dock. The trial began in April, 2010 and ended in June this year and all the defendants have been given leave to appeal the decisions to Madrid’s Supreme Court.
Del Nido took charge of Sevilla in 2002 and Los Rojiblancos have since won two UEFA Cups, two Copa del Reys, a UEFA Supercup and the Supercopa de España.
