Aston Villa interested in Frimpong

By Bryan Waters

Friday 30 December 2011

Aston Villa manager Alex McLeish has set his sights on Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Frimpong, according to The Daily Mail.

Frimpong starred at the start of the season, but with the signing of midfielder Mikel Arteta as well as the future returns of Jack Wilshere and Abou Diaby, he has seen his place in the side diminish. The midfielder is looking to move on loan to a Premier League side to gain some vital experience and Villa are keen to make the signing. McLeish is looking at the 19 year old to provide bite into his midfield and revive his side’s fortunes. Arsenal are happy to loan Frimpong out, but only if they can find a replacement.

The Ghanaian midfielder has made 14 appearances for Arsenal so far this term and showed his class against Villa in the 2-1 earlier this month. McLeish was impressed with the way Frimpong played and has placed the midfielder at the top of his wishlist. Frimpong is happy to stay at Arsenal if Wenger does not sanction the move, but is hoping for more starts in the Premier League.

Wenger faces the possibility of losing Tomas Rosicky in January and if Jack Wilshere does not return from injury as soon as expected, Frimpong may stay. The 19 year old is also courted by Wolves, who have made a formal loan offer to Arsenal chiefs.
