No Liverpool interest in Bent say Aston Villa

By Bryan Waters

Sunday 08 January 2012

Aston Villa manager Alex McLeish has revealed that Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish is not interested in signing Darren Bent, The Daily Mail reports.

Bent joined Villa in the 2011 January transfer window, but has been linked with a move to Anfield following his shopping trip on the day Villa were supposed to play Liverpool. The 27 year old was ruled out with a hip problem, but was spotted shopping at the same time the game was taking place. Bent played for Villa in their FA Cup win over Bristol Rovers on Saturday and McLeish has insisted that his striker will not be sold, despite persistent rumours.

McLeish said: ‘It’s not frustrating; it’s just the transfer window. People like to speculate and use social networking sites and they are having a field day. If there is anybody out there that wants him, they certainly haven’t contacted me and Darren has said on the record he wants to stay at the club. Whenever I asked anyone outside the club, I’ve been told flatly ‘No’. I have spoken to Kenny and he said there was nothing in it’.

Liverpool are without Uruguayan forward Luis Suarez for another five games following his ban for racist abuse and Andy Carroll has failed to hit top form. The Reds are in negotiations with Colombian side Jaguares over an £8.5m move for Colombian international Jackson Martinez.
