Blackburn vs Fulham - Match preview and prediction

By Bryan Waters

Saturday 14 January 2012

Further protests are planned at Ewood Park as Steve Kean’s Blackburn look to keep up their mini-revival with a victory against Martin Jol’s Fulham.

Rovers managed a good draw away at Anfield, which was followed by a stunning win away at Old Trafford. Things came crashing down to earth for Kean with a 2-1 home defeat against Stoke and Blackburn fans are ready to show their animosity towards club owners Venky’s on Saturday. Rovers will see the return of several key players this weekend with goalkeeper Paul Robinson, winger Junior Hoilett and midfielder David Dunn all back following full training this week. Kean may see the loss of defender Chris Samba to Tottenham in the window, but the Congolese international is expected to be back in action against Fulham.

Martin Jol’s side are unbeaten in their last three games, but have a poor overall away record with just four wins in 47 Premier League games away from Craven Cottage. Fulham scored two late goals against Arsenal in their last league outing to pick up three points as they pull away from the drop zone. Jol’s side will be confident of victory against bottom side Blackburn and the Dutchman has never tasted defeat against Rovers in seven previous outings. Fulham will welcome back Andrew Johnson and Simon Davies following injury and midfielder Dickson Etuhu will be assessed ahead of the match.

Fulham should expect to score goals, seeing as Rovers have not kept a clean sheet since April, but Blackburn will be confident they can also penetrate the Cottagers defence. Steve Kean has Yakubu in his side and the Nigerian has got 12 goals in the league this season. Blackburn are desperate to climb out of the relegation zone, but need to improve their home form if they want to survive.
