Tottenham vs Wolves - Match preview and prediction

By Bryan Waters

Saturday 14 January 2012

Tottenham look to follow up their 2-0 win against Everton on Wednesday with another home victory against Wolves on Saturday.

Spurs have been in fantastic form and their win against the Toffees drew them level with Manchester United on points in second place. Harry Redknapp’s side have been the form side of the season so far and have only lost once in 18 matches. That defeat came controversially against Stoke and Spurs have kept their confidence up with some fantastic displays across the board. Their win against Everton came after a difficult 1-0 win over West Brom and Redknapp is looking for maximum points against Wolves before the North Londoners travel to Manchester City next weekend. Redknapp is without Ledley King, William Gallas and Sandro still following injury, but could see the return of summer signing Scott Parker. If the England international does not make the fixture, then the impressive Jake Livermore is a more than adequate stand-in.

Wolves travel to North London on the back of a six-game winless streak and defeat against Spurs could see them fall into the bottom three. Mick McCarthy’s side were unlucky to taste a loss against Chelsea last time out in the league and the Wolves boss is hoping for a more consistent referee’s performance. Frank Lampard should have been sent off against Wolves and McCarthy’s men were unlucky with a decision that saw Nenad Milijas sent off against Arsenal the week before. Captain Roger Johnson is looking to shake off an ankle problem and Dave Edwards is expected to be back from a groin injury.

Redknapp’s side should have the capabilities to beat Wolves and will see the incentive of a possible chance to go top of the league as the reason to turn on their style. Spurs’ players may be tired from the midweek excursion against Everton, so Redknapp will change his side to stop Wolves taking advantage.
