Liverpool reject Villa Carroll approach

By Bryan Waters

Sunday 15 January 2012

Liverpool have rejected an Aston Villa inquiry over striker Andy Carroll, even with the chance to tempt the Reds into signing Darren Bent, The Daily Express reports.

Carroll has misfired since his £35m move from Newcastle last January, but the Reds are adamant to give the striker a longer chance to prove his worth at Anfield. Bent was on Liverpool’s wishlist, but Villa had stopped the deal despite contact from Liverpool officials. Villa could try again for the 23 year old in the summer and if Carroll continues to struggle, the Reds may be open to cutting their losses and selling the player in view of signing a replacement.

Reds boss Kenny Dalglish is adamant that he does not want to sell Carroll and will not discuss any potential transfer with the Midlands club or any other side. With Uruguayan forward Luis Suarez in the middle of an eight-game ban, Liverpool are desperate for goals from their strikers to spark their push for the Champions League.

Liverpool have shown interest in Bent and will only sell Carroll if Villa free up a deal for the Reds to sign the England international. The Reds will be looking to get Suarez back as soon as possible and Dalglish is working on deals to bring players in this transfer window.
