Arsenal chief Gazidis claims Man City are jealous

By Bryan Waters

Tuesday 31 January 2012

Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis has stated that Premier League leaders Manchester City are jealous of the Gunners and would love to be in Arsenal's position, The Daily Mail. City are 18 points ahead of Arsenal in the league, but are out of the FA Cup and the Champions League.

The Gunners have under-performed in the league this season and have already been beaten by City in the league and the Carling Cup. However, Arsenal are into the fifth round of the FA Cup and progressed through the group stages of the Champions League with City only in the Europa League. Gazidis pointed out that the vast difference in wealth between the two sides and insisted Arsenal are doing things the right way, despite many criticising their lack of spending.

Gazidis said: 'Our objective is always to win trophies, and it is this year as it has been before. We're in three competitions this year. You know, Manchester City would love to be in three competitions. They're not. You know, so, money is not everything in this game. I don't disagree that it's important. But we do things based on a value system. We're about creating star players, not about buying them. We're about what happens in a team, between players, not individual superstars. And I think that's an inspiration to people around the world.'

The Arsenal chief has also referenced to UEFA agreeing with spending limits and believes City's spending will catch up on them soon enough. Arsenal travel to the Reebok Stadium on Wednesday to face relegation-threatened Bolton and will be looking to close the gap on City at the top of the table.

To get what they want bullies usually twist arms...lame editors like you twist words. Gazidis did not claim Man City were jealous. Jealousy is an emotional state of resentment against another. Gazidis said Man City would have wished to be in three competitions. That does not equate to a resentment of arsenal.

Gazidis should concentrate on his own club who seem to be on the verge of losing their top 4 spot after many years of almost guaranteed qualification for the ECL. The way things are going, Arsenal will only qualify for the Europa League next year and that will blow a massive hole in the budget plans. On balance I think I'd be happier in City's position than Arsenal's
