Levante snap up Bari striker
Wednesday 01 February 2012
Levante have announced the signing of striker Abdelkader Ghazzal, who arrives from Serie A side Bari after being on loan at Cesena this season.
Despite Levante wanting a purchase option to buy the Algerian international his parent club have refused to grant them permission, but Ghazzal says he is just happy to have received the opportunity to play at the surprise club of this term’s La Liga.
“I am very happy to be here and wanted to join Levante this season,” declared the 27-year-old, who revealed that he already knows a lot about Juan Ignacio Martínez’s team. “Many Italian players have been at the club and they are now talking about Levante in Italy after the season they have had. I can’t say how many goals I’m going to score but what I can tell you is that I will give everything for this club.”
Ghazzal started his career with a number of minor league clubs in France and moved to Italy in 2005 to join Crotone. After being loaned out to a couple of lower league sides he earned a €3m move to Genoa in July, 2008 but was immediately sold to Siena for €1.5m, with both clubs having a 50 per cent ownership in the player.
A return of 11 goals in 67 Serie A appearances resulted in a €2m move to Bari in summer, 2010 but a disappointing two goals in 20 starts saw him loaned out to Cesena at the beginning of this season.
Ghazzal replaces Carlos Aranda, who was sold to Real Zaragoza this month, and becomes Levante’s third signing of the winter transfer market following the acquisitions of Pedro Botelho and Óscar Serrano.
