Top buys Jelavic and Pienaar can inspire Everton says Dowie

By Guest

Wednesday 01 February 2012

Iain Dowie has given his verdict on the January transfer deadline day signings, and has backed Everton to push on from a disappointing first half of the season, suggesting new loan signing Steven Pienaar, and £5m Nikica Jelavic can inspire the Toffees.

"Jelavic has a good track record, with 36 goals in 56 games for Rangers, and wants to be at the peak of his powers ahead of Euro 2012 with Croatia. It's good bit of business for David Moyes, who sold Diniyar Bilyaletdinov for around £5m, so he has almost balanced the books.

"It was a very good day for David. They beat Manchester City, he brought in a proven goalscorer and balanced the wage bill with Louis Saha going out. And to top it off he has got Pienaar back in, possibly on subsidised wages, and he could be their leading creative player straight away. He also brought in Darron Gibson cheaply and Landon Donovan on loan this month."
