Ferguson still hopes to secure Pogba future

By Bryan Waters

Thursday 02 February 2012

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson believes he can still retain young midfielder Paul Pogba, despite reports that the 18 year old wants to leave Old Trafford, Manchester Evening News reports. Pogba made his Premier League debut against Stoke on Tuesday in a 2-0 win for the Premier League champions.

United are still desperate to keep Pogba at the club after losing out on fellow prospect Ravel Morrison to West Ham and there are fears Pogba will go down the same route. The 18 year old is out of contract in the summer and can negotiate with clubs at this time, something Ferguson is wary of. Manchester City and Italian giants Juventus have expressed interest in the Frenchman, but Ferguson wants to keep Pogba for the long-term.

Ferguson said: 'Pogba did very well. The boy has great talent and tremendous physique for an 18-year-old. You can't believe it. We are negotiating his contract at the moment. It is a bit complicated because he has changed his agent a couple of times. But the boy wants to stay, that is obvious. Hopefully we can get it done soon.'

The United boss is prepared to include Pogba once again in his squad for their huge Premier League fixture with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday. Ferguson's side have closed the gap to Manchester City and are level on points at the top of the table, but will have to win against Chelsea to show their intentions and keep the pressure on City.
