Málaga must qualify for Europe says Toulalan
Málaga midfielder Jeremy Toulalan believes the Costa del Sol club’s clear objective has to be a place in Europe next season, and he is confident the improvement shown in the 2-1 win over Sevilla last weekend can be continued at Granada on Monday night.
“This team must be in Europe next year and at the moment we are just three points off a Champions League place,” said the French international. “Things are going quite well at the moment but I think we should have achieved three or four more victories than we have done.
“We have been playing well but not winning games, whereas against Sevilla we played well and won and that gives us confidence for the second half of the season. We played well and lost at Sporting Gijón and Real Sociedad but if we can get a good result against Granada that would be perfect,” he added.
Toulalan was snapped up last summer from Lyon for €10m and he says he has settled in well to life at La Rosaleda, whilst also giving his opinion on the differences between the French and Spanish leagues.
“I feel very happy here and the fans give me a lot of support. They are always behind the team and that gives me the strength to play better. It also makes me happy to hear them shout my name and I always try to be effective.
“As for the football, I think that in Spain it is less physical and more tactical,” he explained. “In France the teams are well-organised but the technical quality in La Liga is better.”
