Liverpool plan to sign Udinese defender Isla

By Bryan Waters

Friday 03 February 2012

The January transfer window went by without a single player moving to Liverpool, but boss Kenny Dalglish is making moves to go ahead in the summer, talkSPORT reports. Udinese defender Mauricio Isla has topped the list of summer signings Dalglish wants to make and he will move quickly to stop the rush of interest.

Isla is a versatile defender and can play any position along the back four, as well as filling in all the midfield positions, which will attract Dalglish. The 23 year old is valued at £8m by Udinese and Liverpool face competition from Roma for Isla, but are confident they can secure a deal. Dalglish has contacted the Italian side over a possible switch for Isla and will look to make preliminary negotiations before making a summer move.

Liverpool are looking to strengthen their defence with the signing of Isla, who could be touted as a replacement for current Reds right-back Glen Johnson. The England international has been criticised by many for his defensive ability and with Isla's great qualities at the back, Dalglish may be keen to tighten up his defence even further.

The Chilean started all his country's games at the 2010 World Cup and has impressed in Serie A with Udinese, but is looking for a bigger move. Liverpool are striving to get into the Champions League and if they succeed, then Isla's transfer could come quickly when the summer window opens.
