Wilshere still hopeful of returning for Arsenal

By Bryan Waters

Friday 03 February 2012

Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has admitted a setback in his return from injury, but remains hopeful of making a return from injury this season, The Guardian reports. Wilshere has not featured at all this season after an operation on his right ankle and has now suffered a stress fracture on the same ankle.

The Gunners are hopeful that Wilshere can return before May and the player will be anticipating the same conclusion so he can make a late push for the European Championships this summer. England boss Fabio Capello wants Wilshere in his squad and will need him to return to show he still has the fitness. Wilshere was expected to return later this month, but the latest setback delays his return once again.

Wilshere's original surgery was successful, but the England international broke down in training last week having suffered the new injury to the same foot. Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger believes that the setback is fairly common and the 20 year old will be back soon. Wilshere confirmed the problem on his Twitter page and will let fans know when further details appear.

The 20 year old tweeted: I can confirm I have a stress fracture but it is not in the same area as my first injury which has healed very which I am happy about. I have developed a stress fracture in the Heal now and I don't want to put any time scale on it as I do not know how long it will take. I will update you more in a couple of weeks when I know more!'
