Wenger to rise above planned Arsenal fan protest

By Bryan Waters

Saturday 04 February 2012

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger insists he will not be affected by a planned protest by Gunners fans at Saturday's home match against Blackburn, BBC Sport reports. Some fans are intending to put black bin liners on the empty seats at the Emirates Stadium to highlight falling attendances.

Fans have also turned on some of Wenger's decisions in the past weeks and in particular, his insistence to play Russian international Andrey Arshavin. The Arsenal faithful have taken a dislike to the 30 year old and when he replaced Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in the game against Manchester United last month, Arsenal fans booed and chanted towards Wenger. Arsenal currently sit seventh in the table and are 17 points off the top of the table, which Gunners fans are extremely discontented about.

Wenger has been at the club 15 seasons and won three Premier League titles, but have only won once out of their last six Premier League games. The Arsenal boss has called for his players to ignore the protests and pick up a much-needed victory against Blackburn on Saturday.

'I feel we have to be above that and show our quality on the football pitch and not respond to every individual provocation. I believe we played 15 years on the trot in the Champions League, and we play in 10 days in the last 16 of the Champions League. Ideally I want everybody to be completely happy and over the moon, but we live in a world where you have to accept that not everybody reacts the same', Wenger said.
