Villas-Boas talks tough ahead of Man United game

By Bryan Waters

Sunday 05 February 2012

Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas has insisted that his side are better off than Manchester United this season and has backed striker Fernando Torres to put a dent in United's title charge, The Daily Mail reports. The Blues are 12 points behind United in the table, but are still in the FA Cup and Champions League whereas United are out.

Pressure has mounted on Villas-Boas with reports linking former boss Jose Mourinho with a return to Stamford Bridge this summer, but the Portuguese manager has laughed off such rumours. Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich was at training this week to check on his troops and Villas-Boas admits that whilst the Blues have not performed well enough, they have more to play for this term than United.

Villas-Boas said: 'We should have a lot more points, it's true, and I've told the players it's unrealistic to think about the title after the irregularity of our results. The Premier League is out of the question but we are still technically in three competitions. The two leaders are out of the FA Cup and out of the Champions League. United are playing for one major competition, we are playing for more. The Champions League is not just a wild card, it's a real objective, but of course we have first to get past Napoli.'

Torres will start up front for the Blues whilst Didier Drogba remains at the African Cup of Nations and Villas-Boas has praised the £50m man for his performances. The 27 year old Spanish international only has five goals for the Blues, but Villas-Boas is delighted with the overall team play Torres brings and believes the goals will come soon enough. If Torres can score the winner against the Premier League champions, his confidence in front of goal is bound to improve and Villas-Boas believes the Spaniard has a great chance.
