Chelsea fans wrong to boo Ferdinand, Villas-Boas says

By Bryan Waters

Monday 06 February 2012

Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas insists the Blues fans were wrong to boo Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand during Sunday's 3-3 draw, ESPN reports. Ferdinand was the subject of chants and jeers all afternoon, which relate to the incident involving Ferdinand's brother Anton and Blues captain John Terry.

Patrice Evra was also a target for the jeering Chelsea fans and Villas-Boas insists he was disappointed with Blues fans deciding to boo Ferdinand. It was an unusual show of support for Terry, who missed the game with a knee problem and is expected to return for next weekend's fixture with Everton. The Blues captain is in court on July 9th to face the charges and has been backed by the club.

Villas-Boas said: 'You have to condemn it when there is discriminatory, aggressive behaviour but you don't expect opposing fans to cheer your players. This is a normal situation in the Premier League. We know the situations. We know we have to play a part. If we want to push on this sequence of events to extend in the future, it's up to us. It's up to me and it's up to you in the press.'

The Blues boss continued: 'If you want to give importance to situations like this, if you let people take responsibility, assume responsibility and the fans and the knowledge that maybe what they were doing makes no sense, it's better but to try to prevaricate isn't right'.

Well let them continue their disgraceful gestures toward an innocent individual if by doing so Man United will be able to crave out some mouth watering points.I wonder what some CFc fans will do if their relation let alone brother was racially abuse when discharging his legitimate duty. And as for JT claim that he didn't abuse him on that day,I can clearly see that he was eulogising him in heat of the game.

I heard no one booing Evra at all. As for Rio - I booed him along with everone else because he's spent the last week trying to influence the case against Terry through the medium of twitter. I don't think Evra did anything wrong and I don't think Anton Ferdinand did anything wrong but Rio has expressed his views very loudly and yesterday was my turn. As for his comments that our booing inspired Man Utd - it's interesting that they appeared to only inspire their midfield and forwards because Rio and Evra and Evans were complete rubbish throughout
