Kelly believes Liverpool can take positives

By Adam Huntington

Tuesday 07 February 2012

Liverpool defender Martin Kelly believes that his side have plenty of things to be pleased with following their 0-0 draw with Tottenham, liverpoolfc.tv reports. Kelly was in the side ahead of Jose Enrique and played well at right-back, dealing with the threat of Gareth Bale on the Spurs left side.

The Reds created opportunities, but could not beat Spurs goalkeeper Brad Friedel as well as a sturdy defence at Anfield. Kelly feels that on another day, his side would have had the fortune to score against former Liverpool goalkeeper Friedel and give themselves a vital three points. Liverpool travel to Old Trafford on Saturday looking for a positive result and performance, where Kelly will be hoping to get into the starting line-up.

Kelly said: 'We had our chances and could have closed the game off and got the three points, but it wasn't to be. We defended well. You have to give Tottenham respect because they are a great side, but I think we had the better chances. Especially in the second half, we created quite a few chances but that's just football sometimes. They defended well and it wasn't our night.'

The Liverpool defender made his first start since October and reserved praise for Suarez, who he believes will bring another lift to the side with his return. Liverpool fans cheered Suarez's return from the bench against Spurs and the young defender believes Suarez will help them to Carling Cup glory over Cardiff City at Wembley on the 26th February.
