Van Persie insists Arsenal must be patient with Oxlade-Chamberlain

By Bryan Waters

Tuesday 07 February 2012

Arsenal captain Robin van Persie has hailed the impact of youngster Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, but wants the fans and the club to nurture his development correctly, arsenal.com reports. The 18 year old has starred in Arsenal's last three league games, scoring twice in Saturday's 7-1 rout of Blackburn at the Emirates Stadium.

Reports have linked the Arsenal man with an England call-up for the European Championships in Poland and Ukraine this summer, but Oxlade-Chamberlain has only played three league games for Arsenal. Van Persie has been impressed with the 18 year old and is benefiting from the two wingers in Oxlade-Chamberlain and Theo Walcott. The Dutchman wants the Gunners to handle Oxlade-Chamberlain with care and make sure that his potential is maximised.

Van Persie said: 'He is a fantastic player already; he's only 18 and is so young. He's good on the ball - he has everything. He's quick, he has movement, technique, can score a goal or give an assist. He has a great future. But don't put too much pressure on him. You always have periods when you are young when you have really high highs and you go up and down until you balance it a bit better.'

On reports linking him with a Euro 2012 spot, Van Persie insists that Oxlade-Chamberlain is good enough and could be given the opportunity by Fabio Capello. The 27 year old is expected to line up alongside the 18 year old once again when Arsenal travel to the Stadium of Light to take on a much-improved Sunderland side.
