Frimpong to miss rest of season with injury

By Bryan Waters

Tuesday 07 February 2012

Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Frimpong has been ruled out for the season with a cruciate knee ligament injury suffered whilst on loan at Wolves, The Daily Mail reports. Frimpong had impressed at Molineux, but suffered the injury in Wolves' 2-1 win at Loftus Road over QPR.

The 20 year old went for a scan on Monday, which revealed the worst, and that has been a huge blow to his development. Frimpong is highly rated by Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger and during his short spell at Wolves, he had cemented his place in the starting line-up. Wenger had played Frimpong for the first half of the season, but decided to send him on loan for the rest of the season to continue his development.

Statements on both club websites have confirmed the problem with the official Wolves website stating: 'Emmanuel is expected to be out for a number of months and will therefore miss the remainder of this season. Everyone at Wolves would like to thank the midfielder for his efforts whilst at the club and join Arsenal in wishing him a swift recovery.'

Frimpong took to his Twitter page to express his annoyance at the problem, but spoke fondly of Wolves and was just looking forward to getting back playing. The Arsenal midfielder said: 'Bad News is that I'm out for 6-9months with my Knee. I wanna thank all the wolves fans for their support since I've been here and really Hope wolves stay up this season. I also wanna ask you to pray for my cruciate injury.'
