Cahill admits to feeling sick following Chelsea draw

By Bryan Waters

Tuesday 07 February 2012

Gary Cahill has revealed that he had a sickening feeling following his debut for new side Chelsea, The Daily Mail reports. The Blues threw away a 3-0 lead against Premier League champions Manchester United to draw 3-3 at Stamford Bridge in what could be a pivotal game for their Champions League hopes.

The Blues were in a commanding position after 50 minutes, but two Wayne Rooney penalties followed by a Javier Hernandez header seven minutes from time gave United the point. Cahill had to wait over a month before making his bow for Chelsea and nearly had a dream debut, but it was not to be. The £7m signing also nearly won the game for Chelsea, but was stopped by United goalkeeper David De Gea.

Cahill has admitted that the Blues dressing room was flat following the game and the players were shell-shocked at what had happened. The defender said: 'It felt like I was thrown in at the deep end and I’ve come away from the game with a sickening feeling. The mood in the dressing-room after the game was really flat. We were all disappointed because when you’re 3-0 up you should see the game through. It was fantastic to be involved in such a high-profile game but, even though we drew, it feels like a loss and it has put a dampener on my debut. We started the second half fantastically but then United were awarded two penalties. I didn’t think the second one was a foul.'

Many believed the defender was lucky to get away with not being dismissed for a tackle on United striker Danny Welbeck in the first half, which referee Howard Webb did not see as a foul. TV replays showed that Cahill did not play the ball and the Blues defender admitted himself he was fortunate to get the decision for him.

That was a great moment for Rooney after such a drought for goals. Two penalties in two games?? for ManU!!!
