Kranjcar eyes Tottenham first team opportunity

By Andy Brunning

Monday 13 February 2012

Nico Kranjcar has admitted he is relishing his recent involvement in Tottenham’s season, and that it may have a positive impact on whether he remains at the club over the summer, reports Sky Sports News.

Recent injuries to Rafael van der Vaart and Aaron Lennon have seen the Croatian gain a place in the starting eleven, and he has now started two Premier League games in a row for the first time since September. He scored one of the five goals Tottenham put past Newcastle on Saturday, and admitted he is looking to take his chance to shine.

“I hope that I have been good enough for our coach,” he said. “I have been disappointed with the injuries I have had, but I am happy to have played in the last few games. There is no shame to be a reserve at a club like Tottenham, but we will see how many more chances I get before the summer.

“Harry Redknapp is always saying to me that he will not let me go at any price, and I guess that that means I will get my chance. I want to help the team to finish as high as we can.”

Kranjcar was linked with a Tottenham exit in the January transfer window, but while fellow midfielder Steven Pienaar did make a move, to Everton, the Croatian international remained at White Hart Lane.
