Chelsea players request Hiddink Arrival

By Stuart Campbell

Wednesday 15 February 2012

Some senior members of Chelsea’s squad are believed to want Guus Hiddink to immediately return to the club for a second spell as manager, to help salvage some respectability from the club’s floundering season, according to the London Evening Standard.

It is understood that both the ability of current manager Andre Villas-Boas to orchestrate an improvement in their form and his choice of tactics during the 2-0 defeat to Everton at Goodison Park last Saturday, have been called into question by certain senior Chelsea players.

This has led them to harbour hopes of the Portuguese being replaced by Hiddink, who saved the Blue‘s season in spectacular style during the second half of the 2008-2009 campaign.

Just as is the case now, Chelsea were in grave danger of finishing outside the Premier League’s top-four when the Dutchman took over. However not only did Hiddink guide them to a third place finish, but also to some silverware, in the form of the F.A Cup.

During the course of his stay at Stamford Bridge, Hiddink earned the admiration of many players who are still a part of Chelsea’s set-up. Therefore whilst their desire for him to return is understandable, there is far from any guarantee it will be satisfied given he has intimidated his own wish to be offered a permanent role, with both Anzhi Makhachkala and PSV Eindhoven, thought to be keen on obliging.
