Mourinho confirms Sergio Ramos returns to right-back

By David Redshaw

Friday 17 February 2012

Jose Mourinho has confirmed that Sergio Ramos will return to his old position of right-back for Real Madrid’s game with Racing Santander at the Santiago Bernabéu on Saturday evening, reports Marca.

The decision has been forced on the Portuguese boss as none of the players who normally fill the position is available against the Cantabrians: Álvaro Arbeloa through suspension and Lassana Diarra and Hamit Altintop through injury, a fact confirmed by Mourinho at a Press conference on Friday.

“It’s true that we have players such as Arbeloa out, somebody who has appeared at right-back the most times, and we have Fabio Coentrao and Ramos who have played there," said Mourinho. “Sergio has been a right-back for many years and I can confirm I have been planning to play him there during the week.

“He is the one who struggles less in the role and will return to the position he occupied for a long time,” he added.
