Modric waits on Redknapp decision before new contract deal

Friday 24 February 2012

Luka Modric is reportedly delaying signing a new contract at Tottenham until the future of manager Harry Redknapp is resolved, according to Goal.com.

The Croatian, 26, has been offered a deal by club chairman Daniel Levy that will make him the club’s highest paid player at £100,000 per week. After being courted by Chelsea last summer, who failed with a bid worth £40 million, Modric is now said to be interesting Manchester United, with Ferguson looking to reinforce his midfield.

Modric has agreed personal terms on the new contract, but is yet to put pen to paper as Harry Redknapp waits to discover if he will be offered the England manager’s job.

The speculation is that, if Redknapp stays, then he will also remain - but his future is less unclear should Redknapp succumb to the lure of international management. His current contract expires in 2016, so regardless, a large offer is likely to be required to persuade Levy of any eventual sale.
