Chelsea target Newcastle striker Demba Ba

Demba Ba is on Roman Abramovich’s wanted list as the Chelsea owner seeks to re-build the Blues side this summer, according to the Daily Mail.

The Newcastle United striker joins Edinson Cavani of Napoli, Porto’s Hulk, Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Willian and Magpies teammate Cheick Tiote as players The Mail claims are wanted by the Russian billionaire. The newspaper adds that a new right-back is also desired by Abramovich, who will also have to appoint a full-time manager once the season ends.

Ba has been with Newcastle since summer 2011, joining on free transfer after exercising a clause in his contract at former club West Ham United that allowed the Senegalese striker to leave Upton Park if the Hammers were relegated. The London outfit duly went down despite Ba’s contribution after arriving in England in January 2011 - Ba scored seven goals in 12 Premier League games for West Ham, and has continued his good goal scoring form after moving to Newcastle, with 16 strikes to his name this season.

Would be a good signing as a squad player. Think Chelsea need a higher class striker if they are to push on and challenge for the League. Cavani would be my prefered choice.
