Wenger demands focus from Arsenal in Champions League run-in

Friday 30 March 2012

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has called on his players to focus in their final eight Premier League games and ensure the club qualifies for next season’s Champions League, the Independent has reported.

The Gunners have pulled back Tottenham Hotspurs’ 12-point advantage in the race to finish third and enter the Champions League group stages directly, now leading their North London rivals by three points. Wenger is quoted as saying: “This is the period where what we do matters the most, so we just want to keep our focus on this and not worry about anybody else's results.

Arsenal have surged past Tottenham on the back of a seven-game unbeaten streak in the Premier League, seeing off Blackburn Rovers, Sunderland, Spurs, Liverpool, Newcastle United, Everton and Aston Villa, scoring 22 goals in the process including seven against Blackburn and five against Tottenham, and conceding six.

In that same period however Arsenal have been dumped out of the FA Cup by Sunderland and the Champions League by Milan, losing 4-0 in Italy and winning 3-0 at the Emirates Stadium, going out 4-3 on aggregate.
