Di Matteo delighted with Chelsea performance

Sunday 01 April 2012

Chelsea manager Roberto di Matteo was delighted with another good outing from his side as they overcame a resilient Aston Villa, chelseafc.com reports.

The Blues ran out 4-2 winners in a pulsating game at Villa Park with Daniel Sturridge, Branislav Ivanovic scoring twice and a first league goal since September for Fernando Torres. Chelsea have only lost once since Di Matteo took interim charge of the club and face Wigan at Stamford Bridge in their next outing. The Italian has managed to steer the Blues back into contention for a Champions League spot and Di Matteo was delighted with the performance of his side.

Di Matteo said: “I thought we were strong; we dominated and controlled the game, apart from five minutes where they scored a couple of goals. I always said that it doesn’t matter who scores, he (Torres) has been providing and now he’s scoring as well, everybody’s happy we scored four goals today, he scored and it was a terrific goal at the end.”

With six victories in his eight games in charge, Di Matteo has earned the respect and praise of Chelsea players such as Frank Lampard. The 33 year old has acclaimed the simple approach Di Matteo has taken with the side and the renewed confidence he has instilled in the club. Lampard started in yesterday’s win over Villa and has looked a different player since the sacking of former boss Andre Villas-Boas, who by his own admission, did not get along with the England international.
