Arsenal clinch Podolski deal

Sunday 01 April 2012

Arsenal have sealed the signing of Cologne striker Lukas Podolski after months of speculation regarding the deal, The Mirror reports.

The German international has been linked with Arsenal for the past two years and reports last month suggested Podolski’s move to Arsenal was a done deal. However, the 26 year old refused to confirm the deal was done, but fresh reports suggest that a £10m fee has been agreed with Podolski and a five-year contract of around £80,000 a week.

Arsenal and Cologne are keen to finalise the deal before Euro 2012 started in June and Podolski has been desperate to leave the German side for a while now. The 26 year old snubbed an approach from Manchester United to join the Gunners, which was also influenced by Arsene Wenger’s ability to speak fluent German.

Rennes midfielder Yann M’Vila is next on Wenger’s transfer list, who will cost the Gunners £15m. The 21 year old is expected to star at this summer’s European Championships and Arsenal are looking to negotiate with the French club before Euro 2012. M’Vila has been capped 18 times for the French national side and Wenger is interested in enhancing his midfield with a player some regard as the next Patrick Vieira.

Anderlecht midfielder Lucas Biglia is also on Wenger’s list and the Argentine international will be approached if a move for M’Vila fails. Biglia has helped the Belgian side to five trophies in six seasons and has a wealth of Champions League experience.
