Liverpool back-up goalkeeper Doni ready for Premier League bow

Friday 06 April 2012

Alexander Doni, Liverpool’s No 2 goalkeeper bought from Serie A side Roma in summer 2011, is ready to take the gloves from suspended first-choice Pepe Reina and make his Premier League debut, the Daily Post has reported.

Doni dislocated a finger in an October friendly against Scottish side Rangers and has spent the entire season on the bench, without even a cup appearance to his name. But with Reina suspended after an altercation involving Newcastle United defender James Perch, the 32-year-old Brazilian international will start the next three Liverpool matches, which includes a Wembley appearance as the Reds meet Merseyside rivals Everton in an FA Cup semi-final.

The Daily Post note that Reina has not missed a Premier League match since May 2007 when he was absent for Liverpool’s home draw with Charlton Athletic. The newspaper also reveals that in his entire Liverpool career, dating back to 2005, Reina has missed only eight Premier League games.
