Carroll set for Liverpool exit

Sunday 08 April 2012

Liverpool striker Andy Carroll could leave Anfield this summer for a cut-price fee that would dwarf the £35m Liverpool paid for Newcastle in January 2011, The Mirror reports.

Carroll came on for the last 25 minutes against Aston Villa on Saturday, where the Reds drew 1-1 disappointingly and slipped back further in their race for European football. Last Sunday, when the 23 year old returned to Newcastle for the first time, he was replaced by Dalglish and reacted angrily, storming down the tunnel and launching a foul-mouthed tirade at the bench.

Dalglish has kept his faith with Carroll, who has only scored eight goals in his Liverpool career so far, but with experts such as Paul Parker saying the 23 year old is not a Liverpool-type player, Carroll's Anfield career could be running to an end. The Reds travel to Blackburn on Wednesday in their next fixture, where Carroll could be handed a start and another chance to prove himself to critics and Liverpool fans.

An Anfield insider revealed: "Kenny has gone out of his way to protect Carroll from criticism. He's straight with his staff, but many people here are concerned that players like Andy have not adapted to the Liverpool way."
