Tottenham and Arsenal eye Hernanes summer move

Tuesday 10 April 2012

Tottenham and Arsenal are interested in signing Brazilian creative midfielder Anderson Hernanes from Lazio, in a deal worth around £16m, according to reports in the Daily Mail.

Hernanes has been impressive for Lazio since his £11.2m signing from Sao Paulo in 2010, scoring 11 goals in 36 games in his first season, and currently has netted eight in 29 this year. However, its is thought that the player is not consistent enough to hold down a permanant spot in the side, especially with the similar qualities held by Italy international Stefano Mauri.

In January the 26-year-old told how he wanted to remain at Lazio for the long-term, however that decision may be taken out of his hands should the club decide to sell.

Lazio currently sit in 3rd position in Serie A, and should they qualify for the Champions League would be in a position to attract a similarly talented player, but who suits their style of play better.

Hernanes has made eight appearances for the Brazilian national team, including in their most recent match, a 2-1 friendly victory away to Bosnia-Herzegovina.
