Kalou targets third spot for Chelsea

Wednesday 11 April 2012

Chelsea striker Salomon Kalou believes that his side could still leapfrog Arsenal, Tottenham and Chelsea and end the season in third spot, according to ITV Sport.

The Stamford Bridge outfit missed out on the opportunity to climb back in the top four when they could only manage a draw against local rivals Fulham at Craven Cottage on Monday night.

However, Ivorian Kalou said: "We have to forget about the game and continue to work hard because it's still possible to get the third place."

Chelsea are currently four points behind third-place Arsenal, though the two sides will meet in a crunch clash a week on Saturday. The Blues’ fixture against high-flying Newcastle early next month is also beginning to look crucial as the race for a place in the top-four hots up.

Despite being on the fringes of the squad for much of the campaign, Roberto Di Matteo’s faith in Kalou in recent weeks suggests that the 26-year-old will have a big part to play for the remainder of the season. The Ivorian has made just 17 appearances in all competitions so far this term; with nine of them coming since Di Matteo replace Andre Villas-Boas in the Stamford Bridge hotseat.
