Wednesday 18 April 2012

Dubai’s Jumeirah Beach Hotel has been announced as the place which will host the grand final of the eighth FIFA Interactive World Cup. The event will take place between the 21st and 23rd May 2012 and follows Barcelona and Los Angeles in staging the games in recent years.

The 24 finalists of the world’s largest online gaming tournament will be flown for a once-in-a-lifetime experience and the chance to be crowned FIWC champion. Former French international and World Cup winner Christian Karembeu will keep an eye on proceedings during the action-packed final.

Karembeu is part of the Task Force Football 2014 and a member of FIFA’s Technical Study Group, who assess the performance of players at FIFA events. The Frenchman is also keen to test himself against some of the FIFA 12 players and is excited for the event.

“I am delighted to be a part of this year’s FIWC Grand Final. The tournament gives football fans all over the globe the opportunity to become a real FIFA World Champion. The fact that over 1m players have taken part in this year’s tournament is astonishing and just goes to show how popular the FIWC is with football fans”, Karembeu said.

Whilst the finalists are in Dubai, they will be able to sample indoor skiing as well as visiting the Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building. Eleven games from seven different countries have already qualified for the event, meaning there are 14 places still left up for grabs.

Contestants can participate in this year’s FIWC through the ongoing online tournament played on the Playstation Network by registering ‘in-game’ in FIFA 12 on their PS3. This year’s champion will walk away with $20,000 and an invitation to the FIFA Ballon D’or 2012. For more information on the FIWC, go to: www.fifa.com/fiwc.
