Arsenal manager Wenger accepts three-game European ban

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has accepted the three-game touchline ban levelled at him by UEFA after his criticism of the referee during the Gunners’ Champions League defeat by Milan, the Independent has reported.

Wenger was charged after verbally abusing Slovenian official Damir Skomina during Arsenal’s 3-0 second-leg victory over the Italians. The result was not however enough to overturn the 4-0 first-leg deficit as Wenger’s side crashed out in the first knockout round of the competition. The manager originally stated his intention to appeal, but evidently decided against doing so.

Skomina was labelled “a disgrace” by Wenger in the tunnel after the match, with the Frenchman also swearing at the official. Wenger was fined £33,000 as well as banned from the touchline for Arsenal’s next three European fixtures, and not only will Wenger be barred from the dugout, but he will not be allowed to have any contact with his coaching staff or players for the duration of the 90 minutes.
