Redknapp has no intention of selling Tottenham stars Bale and Modric

Thursday 26 April 2012

Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp is adamant that the club’s star players, including winger Gareth Bale and playmaker Luka Modric, will not be sold this summer, the Belfast Telegraph has reported.

The newspaper adds that both Bale and Modric have been linked with transfers away from White Hart Lane, with the former reportedly on the shopping list of Barcelona, while the latter was the subject of intense interest from Chelsea a year ago. But Tottenham held firm and would not countenance an offer from their London rivals, insisting Modric was not for sale. Chelsea eventually turned their attentions elsewhere.

Redknapp however insisted he would keep both players at Spurs even if the club does not qualify for next year’s Champions League. Tottenham are currently fifth in the Premier League table, three points behind Newcastle United and six adrift of Arsenal.

The manager said: “There’s no reason [Bale or Modric] should want to leave. If we don’t make it this year we’ll try again next year. There’s not too many clubs they could go to better than Tottenham. Redknapp added that both Bale and Modric were under long-term deals to remain at Tottenham.
